A diverse team of professional development and tech integration specialists launched a district-wide initiative to develop MakerSpaces in the classroom and support classroom teachers in aligning practices to The New York State Next Generation Learning Standards. With a focus on building empathy, classroom teachers created Three Dimensional Learning experiences across many grade levels to engage students in a 3D printing project to build prosthetic hands. Each grade level had a particular content area focus and integrated Next Generation Science & Engineering Practices. Findings indicate that across grade levels, students were emotionally invested into the project and thrived in developing a product to be showcased to the larger community and affect the life of another child.
