As educators, we know the power of student voice in the classroom, as well as students having choice in their educational process. This session will emphasize the importance of encouraging student voice and choice in the classroom. Establishing a classroom culture that values student voice and recognizes different learning styles can help teachers tailor an instructional approach to engage students and meet their learning needs. Participants will learn about a variety of technological tools that can be used with the existing hardware and infrastructure of most districts. In the ever-growing number of classrooms featuring student devices, there are terrific and powerful ways for teachers to use technology to allow students to have their powerful voices heard. For example, the development of "choice boards" allows for individualized, often performance‐based assessments that allow for a variety of student learning styles. Video response websites, such as Flipgrid, allow for all students' voices to be heard, increasing engagement. In addition, it increases student time on task, maximizing student‐centered instruction.
