Redesigning instructional units so they could be taught remotely, leveraging technology as much as possible, is something K-12 school will need to be able to do, if they want to be prepared for possible future school closures due to a pandemic or other emergencies. This presentations will share key findings and lessons learned from an initiative involving a collaboration between the University of Rochester Center for Learning in the Digital Age and the East High School in the Rochester City School District, and aiming at empowering East 17 teacher leaders to lead summer curriculum development of teams of 6-12 teachers across subject areas in redesigning units for remote teaching. The experience involved a replicable month-long fully-online training for the teacher leaders, followed by summer curriculum work, and implementation of the redesign units in the fall. The model developed for this redesign will also be of interest to teacher educators preparing pre-service teachers.
